There is a certain beauty in everything; you just need to see it from the right perspective.
Conventional funerals are not for everyone and scattering ashes may not provide the comfort needed after a loved one dies. Creating a custom sculpture using the ash from cremation provides a touchable reminder of the spirit and can be very comforting. All or part of the ashes may be used and the resulting piece may be displayed indoors or out...let your imagination be your guide.
The large sculpture showcased in the gallery is a very personal piece, made with the ashes of my brother. The sculpture weighs over 100 pounds and was designed to be touched, Viewers have commented that it "looks like a hug"; it is quite comforting to touch. Smaller sculptures can be made using less ash, the small colored hearts seen in the gallery are a good example.
Over the years I have worked with many mediums, including concrete for artistic garden walls, stone hearths and walkways, so sculpting in concrete seemed a reasonable method. After some research, I developed a formula which worked better for me than the usual blends allowing me to sculpt a statue to bring me the comfort I so needed.
